Breast Cancer Project
Every 68 seconds a family loses a mother, a daughter, a wife or a sister to breast cancer. Early detection and treatment are essential to changing this statistic.
Obtaining services and treatment for breast cancer can be financially impossible for Texoma residents who are uninsured. In addition to the emotional impact of diagnosis, breast cancer is often financially devastating.
Texoma Health Foundation’s (THF) Breast Cancer Project has helped medical providers offer services to uninsured residents of Grayson County over the past five years. Thanks to community donations, the work of our Breast Cancer Volunteer Committee and partners of 500 Strong, THF helps cover the costs of breast cancer screenings, treatment, surgery and follow-up care.
Through the work of our Breast Cancer Committee, THF also serves as a community breast cancer resource, providing education about early detection of the disease and hosting of a monthly survivor support group the second Monday of each month.
_________OCTOBER ACTIVITIES__________
2011 served as the 2nd year that the Texoma Medical Center hosted “Think Pink” to benefit THF’s project. The event held each October includes a silent auction, booths, food and speakers to raise awareness and funds to benefit our local women and recognize survivors.
October events this year also included “Pink Out Munson Stadium” put together by the Denison Student Council this past football season. A special thank you to those supporting the cause and to the DHS Journalism Department’s Courtney Clapp Emilee Bizzle and Lauren Hancock for capturing memories through photography above!
“Without Texoma Health Foundation’s financial aid, I would not have survived
breast cancer. The peace of mind they gave me allowed me to focus on recovery.”– Susan Hooper, cancer survivor and THF volunteer
